Hi all: After playing MMIV and putting him in flames I thought it was good idea, after all, this thing of playing old chaps, as I ponderously posted here some days ago. So, lessoning my own advice, I proceded to load again in my special hard disk for chess purposes a lot of old programs, between them the venerable CM3000. And yerterday I played this last at my acostumed rythm of 40 moves in 90 minutes. Well (look Uri, I am following your advice), it does not work. It is not such a good idea after all. The poor CM was absolutely lost after 10 moves or so and using 30 minutes of his alloted time. Even in tactical terms it was not match for me and I am not but a moderatedly strong amateur playing. I had used only 6 minutes to put him in the ropes but I realized that you earn nothing killing these children even in so short lapse of time. Every minute expended with CM 3000 I thought it could be better used losing a game againts tiger or Fritz or Century. So, forget it all I said if by chance someone remember it. My advice now is: do not use your time playing less than top programs. You lose time and you lose concentration and you lose motivation when you see them playing stupid moves. Yes, this is my recantation. I am proceding now to erase those bloody programs from my hard disk. Never is too late to see the light. fernando
