The subject matter is quite tricky. Currently SDRAM is a bit quicker at the first memory access but that will most probably change and then DDR SDRAM will be clearly better. But since a chess program does other things than memory lookups it is clear that more slow memory is preferable to a smaller amount of fast memory as the transposition table is a trade of memory/resources for speed. Just as you might trade money for speed by buying much fast DDR. This is subject to change when new/improved memory technologies evolve. Regards Dan Andersson
