CM8000 is worth a good tryout after applying the 102 patch. I've used it a lot for analysis in comparison with other engines. But I have recently lost confidence in it, and don't use it as often now. I feel that it does not handle king safety properly, and increasing the king safety setting does not seem to help. Nevertheless it seems to be strong. For me the easiest way to use defined personalities in Gameroom analysis with the Thinking Lines and Visual Thinking windows is to set up the game as human vs human, infinite time. Then using Windows Explorer, I substitute my personality for Chessmaster.CMP using window's copy & paste and rename operations. Note that I don't delete the original Chessmaster.CMP but just rename it, so it will still be available if needed. If you delete it, I don't think you can get it back without reinstalling CM8000. Then my defined personality is accessed by checking the Chessmaster box/button in the Thinking windows. Originally I thought a high selective search (SS) setting might be best. I've changed my mind. I believe it depends on the time control and the position. For lengthy analysis of a position (an hour or more) in simple endgame positions, there may be some advantage to using a hex editor to increase SS to perhaps as high as 16 or so. That's the upper extreme. For ordinary time controls and chess playing conditions the normal limit of SS=12 is more than enough. I imagine the default SS=6 is about right, on the average, for typical tournament time controls. --WP
