Actually, Chessmaster 2000 was the first version and it appeared on the Apple II
first to my knowledge (I saw the Commodore 64 version come out later in the
stores). It boasted beautiful graphics and an engine that would break the
hegemony of the Sargons, which until then had been pretty much unrivalled.
