it is possible to win a game of chess without any plan.
and it is possible to win a game of chess by playing a wrong plan.

i would say in the first case you do not play chess - you emulate it,
and in the second case you did, but not succesful.

if you generate the moves by random, and you win, would you say you
played a game of chess ?

whatever.
it needs an opponent to win or to lose.
the opponent is part of the game.
so be lucky !
