Hi Laurence,
Thanks for the advice. First let me say that I have received other comments
concerning the value of family over chess. I most totally agree with your
sentiment. I am very active in my children's lives. From CubScouts to
cheerleading, I support them by being there to encourage their efforts and
exposing them to new activities. Chess being one of them. Baseball, basketball,
soccer, cheerleading, camping, scouting, along with trips to the museum, zoo and
amusement parks are some others. School work is a nightly activity along with
Church every Sunday. I know I have gone on too much but I guess I wanted to ease
any feeling that my chess study is at the expense of my childrens lives.
Chess has always been a fun and interesting activity for me. But I have never
put forth a true effort to excel. I want to see if I can increase my level of
understanding and play without reducing my time with the kids. My chess study is
done either during lunch breaks or at night when the kids are asleep.
I think the "ChessMaster at Any Age" sounds like the book I need.
 Thanks again for the advice,
    Richard
