I'm not offended by your post, and I hope you're not offended by my reply. The
King's settings are believed to be the best for all time controls and all
hardware configurations (as I mentioned in detail in the post that is a few
"above" this one). We have to think of our typical user, and design the product
for that person, rather than the computer chess enthusiast (which is a VERY
SMALL portion of the people who buy Chessmaster) who wants the strongest
possible engine out of the box.

But perhaps calling Chessmaster a "cheap product" is a little severe (unless you
are referring to its price).

The Game Room IS the "power user room", because you can do anything you want
there: create and analyze with any personality, set up any position, look up
database statistics, etc.). Chessmaster 8000's main design intention was to give
the power user (once again, a very small portion of the people who buy the
product) more of what he/she wanted, without making it too difficult or
intimidating to our typical user (who, in many cases, is only barely computer
literate).

Chessmaster is unique among all of the programs mentioned on this board in that
it has a completely different audience than Fritz, Rebel, Tiger, etc., and this
drives much of the design/implementation decisions for the game. And, once
again, the old axiom of "never do anybody half a favor" is starting to ring
true.... ;-)
