Subject: Anand vs Rebel

You mentioned the possible use of a P400 MHz intel machine if
available. The K6-300 may be out then also with the 100 MHz bus speed,
smaller die size and running cooler (therefore a chance at safe
overclocking). Whatever machine is used it is an excellent achievement
to get such a player as Anand to agree to the match. Is there some
financial incentive for Anand to play? I do hope the two 40/2 games
go off as scheduled. These longer controls will be the most telling
for the match.

I might as well make a prediction. 2.5-1.5 for Rebel in
the 5 min blitz, 1-1 in the 15 min games and 2-0 for Anand in the
40/2. I'll most likely be wrong as my record at guessing the Deep Blue/
Kasparov match was off. I also thought the internet match of GM's vs
5 or 6 computer programs last year would be an overwhelming victory for
the GM's but the reverse was true.

One uncanny strength of computers is that they are so difficult to
deliver the knockout punch as they defend so damn well.
