I can not comment extensively without seeing the games you imported and knowing the method you used. IF Botvinnik didn't play 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 or 2.c4 e6 then you have taken him out of book... Otherwise maybe you didn't have a wide enough selection of his games. However, these moves do seem to be in the BotvinnikM.obk as supplied with Chessmaster. One thing about being taken out of book so early: One can almost always play for control of the center and develop their pieces, Chessmaster will do this also. It does not matter that the opponent may play and disregard this principle, let him play h3 and Na3. There is no shame in being 'out of book' if you know how to play a decent game, IMO.
