Subject: Question for John Merlino (& others who are interested) re CM8K Strength

Hi John

After all the previous posts on questioning the strength of CM8K ( including the
endgame ), and the confusion over which version the tester is using 1.00 , 1.01
and 1.02

I have decided to try it out for myself and post the results here.

So before I play 50 games and someone says - "ahh you need to set the floggle
toggle switch to make it play stronger", I could do with some advice.

I have....

CM8K version 1.02
Fritz 6e

CM is playing on a Tosh laptop Portege 3440CT with 64Mg memory ( 500Mhz? )
Fritz is playing on a PC AMD Athlon 550 Mhz with 128Mg memory
( I don't have the funds for 2 identical PC's - Please note Santa- maybe this
year )

CM transposition table is set to 16Mg,(the maximum I can make it) and using the
opening book.

Fritz has insisted on table bases being loaded and a hash size of 32mg, and I
have set it to use it's opening book

Auto232 player set up and working OK.

I have decided to set the time controls to 40 moves - 40 minutes
( purely because both are a default on each package )

Now, is there anything else that I should set up to ensure that the matches are
fair ( except from the hardware that I can't change ---yet )

I will post the results and games here every 10 games
( CM & Fritz analysis too if anyone is interested )

Thanks for any input.
Scott
