I wasn't aware of these games/variants. Instead of trying to identify
the correct one, let me state the rules I will use:

Board: m times n squares, where m and n will be "reasonable" numbers,
to be chosen by the opponent who challenges the robot.

One player marks a free square with crosses and another with circles.
These markings will not be changed hereafter. The first one to get
x markings in a row wins. (x is another "reasonable" number).

My guess is that for x <= 4 this is a win for the player who starts...
What about x = 5 (assuming pretty large m and n)?
I would guess x = 6 is a draw with best play.

Ralf
