Go up one level in this thread

I disagree.

What I see is a discontent for people posting results under headers that suggest
they just found the solution to the world, the universe and everything. Very
often with over-enthousiastic screams in capitals that program X clearly beat
the **** out of the other.

In most cases those claims are made in full innocence, out of sheer enthousiasm,
but not true, and a lot of those people can't handle the fact that not everyone
shares his or her enthousiasm. Those threads are prone to become flames.

One remark about those capitals: pointing at the thread Marcus started: on
Internet it is common knowledge that capitals are a substitute for shouting,
generally accepted as quite rude, even if it wasn't intended that way. It's a
simple thing you can avoid.

Playing engine tournaments or test sets are generally a lot of fun for the
player him- or herself, results may or may not be interesting, and comment can
or will follow. In nearly all "objective" threads like "my xxx-tourney
completed" the reactions can be classified as:
- yoy forgot to mention time controls
- which settings did you use
- where can we download the games
- there aren't enough games of statistically sound conclusions, because.....

Threads like "IT IS NOW CLEAR JANGJANG 5.45 IS OVER ELO 3010!!!!!!!!!!" with in
the body the simple letters "NT" or "JANGJANG BEAT FLOTZ 2,5-1,5!!!!!!!!!""
indeed will get the occasional strong reactions - as meant before.

Remember that if you take the time to run your

>own tourneys or tests, and then take the time to post your results here at this
>forum for everyones benefit

as you say it in your message, you mostly take your *own* time because you like
it, and the benefit for *others* -if any- diminishes rapidly if we just saw five
postings in a row about the last Schredder-Fritz tournament.

Please keep your hobby for your own enjoyment. It's worth it *very* much.
It's also nice to share your hobby. Do that here without suggesting you just
invented the wheel.

And if you want cheers to your dedication for other, deploy activities only if
it was specifically asked for.
The notion that people here are waiting for your or my postings can be a
disappointing one.

Good chess - and no computer crashes, my friend.
Live well and prosper.

J.
