Go up one level in this thread

Not at the level of commercial, BUT equal or better >-better, yes- than the commercial K-Chess Elite. Then, if the guy of K-Chess >Elite can and does it, why not you? Well , here I agree . Bringer , like several other freeware programs , has exceeded the strength of a few commercial programs , especially a few older ones . Programs like K-Chess Elite or LChess are no match for Bringer anymore . When it is about pure strength I think even ChessSystemTal 2 or WChess already have a _very_ hard time in an engine-engine match against Bringer . What makes Bringer special is its own GUI which is not worse than that of a few far more respected commercials to say the least and as it keeps constantly improving ... The chessprogram market has definitely changed though IMHO , competition is much harder than it used to be a few years ago . For an amateur program it is very hard to even get recognized ; and have a look at the freeware : i.e. Yace is freeware ;-) . I don't think earning a reasonable amount of money with a chessprogram that is worth the trouble involved is possible anymore unless you are one of the top of the pops . And then : Gerrit already _has_ a nice job to make a living :-) Cheers. pete >The shareware issue has an easy answer: any money that you can get from >downloading people will be far more than zero money you get now.
