I wanted to answer my own post with the following. Using some sample COM port code supplied through my compiler provider (DJGPP's version of GNU C), I've been able to both read and write to the Novag Universal Chess Board. Since Novag does not publish their interface specifications, what we know so far about the interface commands as well as the COM port code could be useful to hobbyists who like to interface their chess programs to such a 3D board. My own comment on these types of 3D board... in the one week I've had this board I've played more chess than multiple years. It makes playing chess against a computer very convenient. --Stuart
