Using just -O2 -mpentium with pgcc was 15% faster as using -mpentiumpro with it. SO FOR NATIVE pentiumpro it was slower. Note that best settings of pgcc never came close for me in neighbourhood of gcc still! I just learned that the code size of diep-engine is 460kb when compiles with visual c++. That's the engine. Not the interface. Of course a part of this is book code as engine handles book in my prog. and a part of it is EGTB code. Yet still it's huge in any respect. So if a compiler goes fiddling with it then it is going to fall outside of *anything*. Not to mention if run dual. Quad is a different case as caches are bigger there... I've given up PGCC in all respects. What i heart was that they did some effort for 64 bits and old K6 computers though.
