Go up one level in this thread

Needless to say I've been to quite a few forums in my time and 90% of people
don't use their real names. They mostly use a nick name like "chessfun". There
are a few chess forums out there for one reason or another that use real names.
But other than those chess forums, most other forums on the net use nick names.
That's just an accepted thing amongst most internet users. Personally I see
nothing wrong with using a nick name. Your under no obligation what-so-ever to
use your real name. What matters to me is the quality of what is written, not
the name under which it is written. The idea of showing people's IP addys for
all to see isn't exactly a great idea either here's why:

-_Most_ of peoples IP's change all the time, whenever they log on to the net. So
showing them off really doesn't make a difference

-I have a static IP addy, and I would not like it if everyone could see it since
it doesn't change.

-If you really want to, it takes about 30 seconds to go on the net and find an
anonymous web-browser which will simply block your IP from showing. Proxy
servers also do this if I'm not mistaken...

The other two ideas that where talked about are ok.

You will never get a perfect forum where everyone behaves nicely. Of course
there is one way of doing it. Make a private forum and only allow certain people
in :)

Since anyone can sign-up here you will always see a few jerks. To be honest,
concidering the size of this forum, I think it's very well behaved.
