Frank, There are no automatic priveleges, except the honour, connected to the World Championship title. It isn't a candidate tournament. The opinion of the programmers are important, but ultimately it's a decision that BGN must make. That is, if they're capable of coming up with a lucid thought among them. I hope they refrain from using a basement tournament as their method of finding the challenger. In principle all chess programs should be allowed to participate in a candidate cycle, but that is hardly a realistic option. What are the requirements for having a shot at the match against Kramnik? The incomplete SSDF list? The ten best programs awarded with points from the latest major tournaments? There are more questions than answers IMO. Therefore I find the proposed match to be quite ludicrous at the moment. Mogens.
