Frank I did disagree with you (because I don't want to see Shredder in it) but now I think you are possibly right. The main argument to me against automatically choosing Shredder is that it is by no means proven to be stronger than the other programs. But Kramnik (nor anyone else) is by no means proven to be the best human! So maybe it is only natural to have Shredder play...at least that is DEFINATELY better than a tournament between only 3 programs with no say of the authors (which would be horrible).
