What is the "proof number search"?

The most probable this position don't have mate in 11 moves. Only 12 is still
under question mark. I tried 11 moves during the night and probably was very
close to official response "no" when I disconnected search. I needed my
computer. Big jump in branching factor, starting with move 10, make very slow
search for mate (by brute force) 11 moves deep.
