That goes without saying, hence the requirement for openness.

I'm sure that both Crafty and Ferret would be capable adversaries. Early, or
any, notification of the qualification event would allow authors of the
mentioned programs a chance to optimize the performance and for others to make
an effort. It probably wouldn't have resulted in an abundance of programs, but
it demanded little effort.

They already are, and the arrangement as such sounds okay. The exciting part is
choosing between Deep Junior or Deep Fritz ;-).
