There are a few possibilities to find out what causes the problem on your
system.

First of all if available under Me let Dr Watson run (a part of the Windows Info
system utility) Also let windows generate a faultlog.txt log file, to see if and
how programs terminate irregularly.

At http://www.dependencywalker.com/ you can download Dependency Walker and check
in detail what happens when you start a program.

A small tip: also use -if you didn't already- a registry checker. Or rebuild
your registry. The most freaky things can happen when your registry has a wrong
entry.

Good luck.

J.
