Weiner started all the mess with the SSDF by trying to manipulate them. He
wanted the results of Shredder 4 to be hidden. That's the origin of the problem.
I mean, how is it possible to have a problem with the SSDF? I had to deal with
them and I still have to do. There cannot possibly be a problem with them unless
you try hard to create one.
It's so simple: you send your product and they test it. If you feel that there
is a problem, you contact them and they listen to you and try to correct it.
Look at what happened recently with CM8000: after a long time a problem with the
setup of the program has been discovered. They have re-started the testing from
scratch with the new setup! They have thrown away hours of testing because they
want to achieve as much fairness as possible.
Some time ago I asked them to delay the test of Tiger 13 until the release of a
patch. They accepted. Then I told them that there will be no patch but a new
version instead. They accepted to wait a little bit more and as a result Tiger
14 will be tested (actually is currently being tested). Wasn't it a wise
decision? I mean nobody cares about the results of Tiger 13 when Tiger 14 is
already out.
Maybe it has not always been going so smoothly. Maybe some problems happened
before. But in my experience it is possible to talk with them and to find
reasonnable solutions.
From what I know about the relationships between Weiner (Millennium) and the
SSDF, it appears that Weiner has made an attempt to manipulate the list by
threatening the SSDF with a lawsuit if they published the results of Shredder 4.
Weiner would of course lose such a lawsuit, but the SSDF did not want to deal
with all this legal troubles. It's quite understandable when you think that they
get no money from their list. They invest their energy and good will in it and
they are threatened with a lawsuit!
At that time Weiner's goal was clear: Shredder 4 had just won the WCCC, and
Weiner did not want his baby to appear in the SSDF list, where it could have
achieved an embarassing ranking (I'm not sure it would have, but that was
Weiner's worry).
There is a name for this: DISINFORMATION.
I'm quite sure that if Weiner really wants Shredder to be listed now, there is a
way to settle all disagreements.
But Weiner's position now is very comfortable: he does not want his program to
be listed, and he has managed to make believe that it is the SSDF that is
refusing to publish the results.
That's heaven for him! So of course he is not going to take the slightest step
to get out of the disagreement!
Well done Ossi!
