 While I do agreee that Karpov didn't have the roughest rooad to the
finals, he did win, and still retains the title, thus giving him a
number 1 spot. Perhaps we should all wait to see what becomes of the new
Chess Congress Championship, which has invited both Shirov and Kramnik
to compete for a shot at Kasparov. personally, I wish that some type of
re-unification would occur.
  Regardless, I think that the title holders are due enough respect
thatt they should be considered one and two.
