Press Release BGN World Computer Challenge latest BGN offers postponement to allow Shredder to compete Brain Games Network, the organiser of the 2000 World Chess Championship, will stage the first Man v Machine Championship since 1997 later this year. In order to find a program to challenge world champion Vladimir Kramnik the top four software programs have been invited to play in an eliminator. So far, Fritz and Junior have accepted, while the IBM Deep Blue team have declined. The organisers, BGN, are still hoping that Shredder will also compete and have offered to postpone the start of the tournament in Cadaques, Spain, to allow Shredder more time to accept the invite. Here is the text of the latest invite to the Shredder team. Invitation to Shredder Brain Games Network would like to make it completely clear to all those behind the esteemed and highly respected Shredder program that the invitation to compete in the Cadaques Candidates tournament for top programs is still open and will remain open until close of business on Monday 23 April. As is well known, the winner of the Cadaques tournament will earn the right to play against Vladimir Kramnik in the supreme Man v Machine tournament later this year. Brain Games Network originally invited the world's top four programs: IBM's Deep Blue, Shredder, Fritz and Junior. Fritz and Junior have accepted the invitation while IBM have declined. Everyone at BGN would be delighted and honoured if the Shredder team would reconsider their original decision and agree to compete. The conditions for all competing programs will be absolutely identical to ensure a level playing field. The games will be played under public scrutiny in the Rocamar Hotel in Cadaques and members of the press will be on hand to witness fair play. If the Shredder team can reply positively to this invitation by close of business on Monday 23 April, BGN will be delighted to postpone the start of the event until 26 April to ensure their participation. If not then ,regretfully, the event will proceed in Shredder's absence.
