Under the heading of "What is good for the Goose is good for the Gander" at another site, the author asked the question, "When Karpov was FIDE world champ and FIDE decided that Karpov would have to compete with others to win his title again, he refused to play and got little sympathy from the chess community. Is that because most chess players disliked Karpov? Now Shredder is getting the shaft but the chess public is up in arms. Love Shredder, hate Karpov." While there is differences, there is also similarities.
