Dear Mr Levy, Many thanks for your "open letter" in which you make a number of constructive suggestions with regard to the organization of the Qualifier for the Braingames Man vs. Machine event to be held in Bahrain later this year. You have suggested that there should be an additional match, sanctioned by the ICCA and called the "World Matchplay Computer Chess Championship", in which the current ICCA world champion Shredder will play the winner of the BGN qualifier in CadaquƩs. The winner of the Matchplay tournament would then go on to play against the BGN world champion Vladimir Kramnik in Bahrain. I would personally greet a Matchplay Championship on the lines you have described. For this reason I have passed on your proposals to the organizers and confirmed to them that I would be willing and able to conduct the event. As you know I am the executive tournament director of the qualifier that has been announced by Braingames Network and their sponsors. The decision on the required modification is theirs, and I would request you to contact the person in charge, GM Raymond Keene, who I am sure will consider your proposals with utmost sincerity. You can reach Mr Keene at 86 Clapham Northside Common London SW4 United Kingdom Tel: 0044-207-228 7009 E-mail: rdkobe@aol.com In the meantime I will start the qualifier as planned on Tuesday, April 24. This is necessary since trilateral contracts have been signed. As soon as an agreement between the ICCA and Braingames is reached we will be able to decide how to proceed. Sincerely Enrique Irazoqui
