Also it's obvious AMDs get clocked higher and higher, so do intel processors. follow up of g4 it is very doubtful a) whether the velocity engine is still alive b) whether apple can get it's follow up cpu's clocked near AMD/INTEL speeds. It seems all manufacturers recently lost the battle versus AMD/INTEL when talking about speed of cpu. In 1997 the 21164 was clocked 633Mhz, overclocked at world champs to 767Mhz even (overclocking here is not relevant). Now it's clocked 833 or 866Mhz for the 21264. Though a much better cpu, the 21264 doesn't even clock the double speed of the 21164! intel/amd all clock way above 1.3 Ghz now. You can buy a P4 of 1.7Ghz now. and you can buy a 1.33Ghz K7 now. Both don't require liquid cooling to get clocked at that speed! To get a 21264 clocked to just 1 Ghz you need liquid cooling at least and you don't get garantuee from alpha probably!! So wasting 2 years of rewriting my program to assembly for the G4, NO THANKS! No thanks either to convert it 80x86 assembly! I prefer to keep it ansi-C with a few function calls which are necessary to implement SMP on each machine... Best regards, Vincent
