The system converts the <'s and >'s to their entity equivalents (&lt;
and &gt;) so HTML code can be seen by readers but will not be
interpreted by the browser. This prevents anyone from embedding images
as well as other even more disruptive HTML tags.

Eventually, I will have the system scan for potential links and add the
appropriate HTML code.  I am looking into various ways of doing this.
One thing the old Netscape 1.x newsreader used to do is just link any
text which began with "http:", "ftp:", "news:", "mailto:", "gopher:",
"telnet:", and maybe some others (?).  This is probably the best way.
