Hi Thorsten: Incredible, entertaining an very instructive the post you have gave to all us; the internal history of the making of a chess program. And a lot most amazing the fact that Chris, as you say, has said goodbye. Do you remember that quotation by Hayd when tlaking with Leopold Mozart, what said to him, that telling with the truth his son was the best musician he has ever seen? Well, I am not a genius like Haydn, at least not in chess programming, so I am not entitled to say the same, but as a customer 49 years old and purchasing, playing and testing computers and programs since 1978, I can say that CSTAL is the very best -for humans, for God sake- program I have ever seen. I can win or draw -not too many times, but I can- against CM5000, against Rebel 9, against Fritz 5 -many times- etc, etc, but CSTAL just simply does not let me to take a breath. Sure: a computer can grasp his weaknesses and so CSTAL can be not the top in SSDF rating list, but, do you know a program walking to Gambitsoft or ICD to purchase a program, do you? I am sure that if Chris put some aditional effort in his program he will get a real monster, if it is not already. I hoped the w98 version woul be the next monster, but if you say that only GUI experts are in that, welll, what a pity. Howewer, what can we do us? We are -I am- just a customer and a guy that in ocassions write something of this field in WCCR, that's all. Nobody to be taken into account by Chris. In any case, I will be not the idiot to begin a campain by email to move the man to the front line. Sure I will be not. Cheers Fernando
