In 1972 yes he was. But by 1975 IMO Karpov would have had good chances. We know the Russians had more of a team effort and Fischer hadn't hardly played in three years. Fisher was indeed one of the greatest players of all time. Many would say the greatest. But that isn't what the question is. I think quite a few would feel Karpov of 75 had chances especially with the Russian team. But again Karpov was never as popular as his record deserved. IMO. Sarah.
