Mr. Eklund,

My letter was not directed to you, so why did *you* answer it?

>>1. Why wasn’t Chess Tiger invited to this qualifier?
>
>Because of the conditions for the event, see mr Morelands post below.

Do you need a just written post by mr. Moreland to answer this?

>>2. Why did the Chess Tiger team only hear about this qualifier some weeks before.
>
>See the answer above, you ´heard about the conditions the 8:th of April and in
>several foras 15:th of April.

And why did we have to hear this in a forum, wasn't this match made public and
were no invitations sent to all companies that could play with a strong engine?
That is very strange, isn't it? That you need to apply after reading a forum.

>>3. Why did you refuse to let Chess Tiger play, even though the Tiger team very
>>willingly cooperated to make the participation of Chess Tiger possible?

>This was two days before the event. When did you heard about a fully >functioning Tiger or Rebel which could use multiple cpus? Why didn't you told >Enrique or send him a copy of the program(s) as you know he use a dual?

As you know the Tiger team was very much willing to send a copy of the program,
but Christophe needed some days to double check. Tiger could play after the
Junior-Fritz match.

>>4. Why didn’t you try to find a positive solution to this matter?
>
>He did, he asked for a working version of the program, if so Tiger had
>participiated.

There is a working version.

>>5. Why did you keep on saying ‘no’, even when it became clear Chess Tiger could
>>play under the conditions you wanted?

>You never sent him a copy of the program, so he could see if this was a serious
>thing or some kind of politics.

If the Tiger team just said they would have an SMP-version and this turned out
not to be, then everybody would laugh at the Tiger team, wouldn't they? Explain
me about these politics: It was made absolutely clear that Tiger very much
wanted to play, so where are the politics?

>>6. Why did you refuse to believe that Chess Tiger could play under your
>>conditions, the more because you haven’t checked this out yourself?
>
>You can only blame yourself, you could have informed him as soon as possible,
>instead of waiting one or two days before the qualification began.

Who is to blame, mr. Eklund? An almost secret event, of which we had to read in
a forum; the messing up with Shredder; the story with Chess Tiger; critics all
over the place. And now you are blaming me?

>>7. Do you think it is fair to exclude very strong chess programs from such an
>>event?
>
>No, of course not and you have made a lot of people, including me, disappointed
>with the hiding of a SMP-Tiger.

Please mr Eklund, how many companies will tell you about their plans!? You made
a lot of people disappointed by the ongoings of this event.

>>8. What proposal was made to the IBM team: Could they play on their own
>>hardware, or did they have to play on specified hardware?
>
>Is this a serious question? They were offered to play on an old TRS-80 computer.

Yes, this is a serious question and you know why I am asking it: Was IBM allowed
to play on their own hardware, or should they use a SMP machine? If the answer
is 'IBM had to play on a SMP machine', then we all know it was not a serious
offer, because it would be denied anyway.

>>9. What was the reason IBM declined the offer?

Why don't you answer this question?

>>10. Knowing you as a fair person, unbiased and with great achievements for
>>computer chess, can you now look into a mirror and say to yourself ‘I have been
>>absolutely fair to all parties and I have been honest to all the other chess
>>programmers who are not competing now’?
>
>I guess he can but some people have done everything they could and a bit more
>trying to hurt his reputation.

I am not hurting anybodies reputation, I am just asking unresolved questions. I
still have the deepest respect for Enrique. But to be honest: I still don't have
the answers to the questions. You also didn't answer the question if Tiger can
still play.

>In example mr Schroeder backing up mr Czubs sick
>accusations against him. Forbidding Chessbase to send him the CB-Tigers and so
>on. If you don't agree with mr Czubs accusations it IS ALLOWED to say so >instead of hiding.

I fully understand that you are angry, but there is no reason to insult mr.
Schröder. All in all you organise this event, things go out of control, so there
is only one you can blame: Yourself. Learn from it, and be open next time. It
will save a lot of enegery.

Jeroen
