IF the original intent was to use an 8 processor machine, then there is no doubt that a good program on an 8 processor machine is stronger than a good program on one processor. Requiring SMP was possibly a legitimate thing to do. The problem was that the current world computer chess champion is _already_ SMP-ready (Shredder). The runner-up at the last WCCC event is _also_ SMP-ready (Ferret). Requiring a qualifier event was wrong. But doing so without including Ferret was ridiculous, to put it politely. 2. I won't speculate for possible ulterior motives on the part of the principles involved in the qualifier. I've known Enrique for several years now and don't think he would do anything underhanded, period. BGN might, as I don't know _anything_ about anyone there. I choose to not speculate on things I don't have anything but circumstantial evidence to support. 3. I don't think anything odd happened during the DJ/DF match. That was just a bit of good luck at the front, a bit of bad luck at the end (for DJ). The programs are obviously fairly close with Fritz being probably a small bit better.
