a pretty bizarre idea,I would have thought.next time I think all events should be settled by a ballot rather actual performances or results.We should next organize a ballot to decide whether Kasparov is still the best or whether Kramnik/anand/Shirov etc are stronger.( the ballot has already decided that Kasparov is stronger than deep blue)It saves the trouble of actually playing a match!(If for example an unpopular player were to defeat a more popular player one could easily reverse this result by voting against the winner!)this concept can next be extended to cover all other contests eg olympics, wimbledon, world cup etc.this would save a lot of time, money and energy.
