Subject: Fritz 5 smashes databases ?

Hi all,

maybe I'm going over the edge concerning database functions by a
primary chess program, but if the options are present, they should
work, otherwise there must be a hint concerning restrictions.

What happened:

After searching my A-database (eco a00-a99, about 340000 games) for
doubles by using the program Cbdedupe 1.0 (btw a useful, simple and
fast utility) I tried to delete these marked doubles with Fritz 5.
Using the option "clean" database, which worked fine, as I used it
always with small databases.

With that big (?) database the procedure ended into a disaster...!!

After reading the games Fritz stopped during the compressing database
process and I remained with the option to close the technical message
window. Effect to the games...?, a huge amount of them were deleted
as read errors, ...database absolutly useless.

I repeated with another comparable database..., exactly the same result.

My system is well configured and had never caused any worth mentioning
problems, so I have no idea about that, maybe anybody else experienced
the same ?

However, backup your data is a advisable thing, but that's old news :-))

regards
Uwe
