I had the same problem a few days ago when I upgraded my application server at work. Here's how I solved it: 1) Start task manager 2) Kill all processes called "IKernel.exe". 3) Restart the installer. If that doesn't do it, perform step 1) and 2), then manually delete the C:\Common Files\InstallShield\engine\6\kernel32\ikernel32.exe (your file name and path may vary) that it complained it cannot delete. (In fact, if you are *not* able to delete it, it means some process has opened it for read/write access, this is almost always the IKernel.exe process itself.) ad 2) I don't know if/how this works under ME, I did it in Win2000...
