The way he does it he will be sure his 1'st ply pass will have reasonable ordering. But all moves will dump straight into the quiescent search anyway, so at ply 2 the situation is identical for both techniques. While I do not see how this could affect real games, I do think this is what makes it possible to set crafty to play 100 moves in one second and still have it play something that resembles chess. -- GCP
