Dear "ole paranoid Gramps" Lowrance, ChessBase is an excellent company but like every other business it likes money. Deep Fritz and Deep Junior are basically equivalent programs. ChessBase sells both. Now isn't it good to have Deep Junior as the program that tied Deep Fritz but lost in the "Playoffs" to that same program. By inference, if Deep Fritz barely loses to Kramnik you can be sure that ChessBase will "capitalize" on that point and claim that Deep Fritz almost won against a world-class GM. Then it will say that Deep Junior tied with Deep Fritz in the earlier contest and that those who have Deep Junior should be justly proud. No harm done. This contest was always a marketing tool for Fritz and Junior. ChessBase still deserves praise as a provider of fine computer chess programs and products.
