I posted analysis for the orignal position in another thread of this
position. For the record, crafty needs about 2 minutes on my quad xeon
to drop Qxa3.
For your second question, here is Crafty's output (same quad xeon 700):
(3) 12 50.90 -0.35 2. ... Rfd8 3. Bxg7 Kxg7 4. Qf6+ Kg8
5. Bh7+ Kf8 6. Rf1 Rd7 7. Bg6 Ke8 8.
Bxf7+ Rxf7 9. Qxf7+ Kd8 10. Qxb7 Rc8
(4) 12-> 1:21 -0.35 2. ... Rfd8 3. Bxg7 Kxg7 4. Qf6+ Kg8
5. Bh7+ Kf8 6. Rf1 Rd7 7. Bg6 Ke8 8.
Bxf7+ Rxf7 9. Qxf7+ Kd8 10. Qxb7 Rc8
(3) 13 1:31 0.00 2. ... Rfd8 3. Bxg7 Kxg7 4. Qf6+ Kg8
5. Bh7+ Kxh7 6. Qxf7+ Kh8 7. Qf6+ Kh7
8. Qf7+
(4) 13-> 2:41 0.00 2. ... Rfd8 3. Bxg7 Kxg7 4. Qf6+ Kg8
5. Bh7+ Kxh7 6. Qxf7+ Kh8 7. Qf6+ Kh7
8. Qf7+
(3) 14 3:04 0.00 2. ... Rfd8 3. Bxg7 Kxg7 4. Qf6+ Kg8
5. Bh7+ Kxh7 6. Qxf7+ Kh8 7. Qf6+ Kh7
8. Qf7+
It switches from Rfc8 to Rfd8 at about 15 seconds and sticks with it. It takes
about 90 seconds to actually find the draw...
