First of all, I am a member of SSDF and I write articles for them. So as you realize I don't have the intent to question the SSDF list and the work of my colleagues here in Sweden. The reason why I entered this discussion was not so much the placement of Fritz5 on the list. I am more interested in the style of the chess programs. I have seen so much nice chess produced by the programs the latest year so I'm simply worried for a deterioration. I don't think Fritz5 will be able to produce so much fine chess, notwithstanding its placement on the list. The typical PC today is a P90. I simply happen to think that chess enthusiasts should buy another program than Fritz5 since the others play better quality chess on a P90. But the best alternative is perhaps to buy Fritz5 and the Hiarcs6 module, but maybe they don't realize this. I think that the positional quality of computer chess is immensely important to promote computer chess and its development. See my "Re: Even some more shots..". So I am reluctant to play at ICC since I am not interested and don't have the time. I don't want to prove that Fritz5 is a shitty module, it has played some nice games against me as well. My intent in this discussion is to promote a cunning positional view of chess engines instead of this list hysteria. Nevertheless, one cannot simply dismiss Thorstens arguments. But perhaps the solution is simple. Maybe Fritz5 is the leader of the 60+ Mb hash league. It seems to be a very hardware dependent module. Regards Mats
