I think, it can be expected that there is no big difference at small depth, when
one looks at possible lines. It depends on the exact implementation of the numm
move algorithm. One possible scheme of searched lines with R=3 could be:

depth  line
2      move null (qsearch)
3      move null (qsearch)
4      move null (qsearch)
5      move null (qsearch)
6      move null (search with depth 1) move

etc.

So, even with an aggressive nullmove, at depth 3 the effective R is equal 1
only.
