This is *your* way of judging the porgrams. I don't regard your judgement to be fair. I prefer a windows surface like you do. And I like Fritz5 like you do. But, to be honest, you have to admit that Fritz5 with all its buttons is quite far from what I understand as a real Windows-like GUI (context-menus for all imporatant functions etc). It's ok if you get used to it, nothing more from my view. On the other hand programs like Rebel9 or Mchess7, though still being DOS-programs, have many nice features and quite a usable GUI as well. So the difference is hardly as big as you put it. >Now their sales will drop or they will have to come into the year 1998 >and write a Windows program! HELLO ED, MARTY AND THE REST OF YOU it is >1998 not 1983 any more. People don't want crappy DOS programs any more. DOS does not mean crappy by definition. A DOS-based program can be ok, as long as you have no porblems with it within Windows. Do you have any with Rebel or Mchess? > I like the Rebel chess engine I think it is amazing but I will tell >you one thing there is no way in hell I will pay $ 116 U.S. for another >DOS chess program when I can buy Fritz, CM5500, Shredder etc... Why don't you prefer to ask Ed Schroder for a Windows GUI or tell us about all its advantages to raise some sort of polite customer pressure on Ed - sorry Ed :-) - instead of just judging programs like Rebel in an unfair and rather impolite way? In this case i could subscribe your wish. I even would go one step further and ask *all* programmers including Matthias Wuellenweber to show some more respect for the menawhile established standards within Win95/98 porgram surfaces. This would be convenient for all users: finding similar structures within all chess programs and not having to think all the time which kid of shortcut might get program No. 23 to begin evaluating a given position. >I notice Ed has never dared post these accusations on rgcc where he >can't control who and what is posted. Have I missed some heavy accusations by Ed? >Please read this email quickly as its' life expectancy is unfortunately >going to be until Ed and the rest of that bunch reads it!!! See above: as long as you stay on-topic without insulting someone why should anything happen to your post? I just would prefer a less agressive statement - knowing well that I use sarcastic or agressive expressions at times myself ;-) So just take it as encouraging each other to stay polite :-) >Regards, Sean Kind regards from Dirk
