Here's the explanation of Tablebase Depth given by Chessbase on its website (the
discussion is actually about using the Depth parameter with Chess Tiger, but the
function is identical with Fritz)

"Tablebase depth -- this controls how deeply in its search the engine will start
accessing the tablebases. This is explained in a bit more detail in the paper
insert that comes with the Tiger CD, but basically the higher the value, the
faster the engine will run (as it won't try accessing the tablebases until
deeper in its search). The default value is "4" and, for my money, I won't
change it unless I have a very specific reason for doing so."
