I get by with an even slower computer (Pentium 133, 16 MB RAM), so I can only speculate on why one would want the fastest possible machine. Since any decent program can beat the tar out of non-masters like myself even on a 66 Mhz machine, I assume the reason for wanting a faster one is improved quality of analysis. A machine that is capable of hitting 20+ ply in a reasonable amount of time -- which I assume is not generally available yet -- could presumably compensate for programs' well-known positional deficiencies simply through depth of calculation.
