Here is mine. :) The SSDF is a valid and reliable measure of program strength on the hardware measured for tournament play against humans and other programs. The top programs have proven to perform above 2500 (2500 is the minimum for GM strength). Some of the programs have performances above 2600 and DJ6 has a 2702 performance against the top GM's (finished 50% score). So my opinion is that at tournament time controls and under tournament conditions the programs easliy perform at GM to top GM strength on 500 MHZ or faster hardware (and faster hardware makes a top programs better). Match play is different in my opinion. Both the human and program ratings are accurate, however, many people can find a way to exploit (adapt, learn) weaknesses faster than a machine can adapt. This is still a human virtue in my opinion. With 3 months to prepare, Kramnik should dust the computer. I expect no more than 1 draw and a quick end to the match anything more than than .5 for the computer should be considered a great accomplishment. Just my 2 cents. :) SSDF ratings: http://home3.swipnet.se/~w-36794/ssdf/ ELH ratings: http://www.elhchess.demon.co.uk/ehss.htm Comp vs Human results at 40/2: http://home.interact.se/~w100107/rpthtm.htm SSDF calibration games at 40/2: http://home.interact.se/~w100107/level.htm Best Regards, Chris Carson
