I should point out that the $200,000 doesn't appear to be a loser's purse. The only apparent lunacy was in giving the event away to a major competitor, and the loss of publicity. Hyatt reckons the publicity is worth $400,000 advantages-too >numerous to count; disadvantages-nill Some people have done really quite well outside of the Chessbase monopoly. I would advocate programmers to have the confidence to do it themselves rather than rely on smooth-talking marketeers. Disadvantages are not 'nill'. Loss of rights to negotiate ones own work in a free market is a big disadvantage. > >rajen
