It's definitely a case of "Your Actual Mileage May Vary"

Some programs get an enormous speedup.
Some get little speedup.
Some even slow down (Arasan, for example).

The extra speed of the binary will very wildly from platform to platform.

For my platform, Intel C++ has emitted a faster binary than GCC for everything I
have ever tried. It emits a faster binary than BCC for everything I have ever
tried. It emits a faster binary than MS VC++ most programs, but sometimes it's
only a few percent faster and sometimes its even a few percent slower.

I have had people report to me that programs which do much better on my machine
do worse on theirs. So try it and see if you like it.
