Well, the Excalibur LCD Chess unit (currently available at $19.95) uses only a 6 MHz processor with 16K of memory. It plays a darn good game with this limitation too! I rate it somewhere between 1600 and 1800 ELO. Though my "rating" is not very scientific at this point. The GameBoy has either a 4.77 or 9.54 Mhz Z-80 depending on whether or not you have the color version. (ChessMaster has a cartridge for the GameBoy.) I've been told by some that, despite the faster processor on the color version, it evaluates positions much more slowly. (I have not had a chance to confirm this yet.)
