It just leaves the engine default (as it should). However, you can turn pondering on or off by opening the appropriate "Xboard Engine Output" window, right-clicking on it, and selecting "Send Engine Command". You can then type in "hard", "easy" or anything else you like (use at your own peril, of course). jm
