Hi giorgio: if you are building an athlon based system, go for DDram- although
not benchmarked for chess, according to reports on the internet, it generally
seems to be better for most applications. other considerations are
<www.crucial.com> (retail arm of micron ) is selling high performance pc2100
DDram at almost the same price as SDRAM.

future smp capable athlons (palominos) will use DDram; SDram for future athlons
seems to be on its way out.

if on the other hand you are going for pentium 3 or celeron systems then DDRam
is a waste-SDram works as well.

for pentium 4 systems you need RDRam
