Subject: CT14.1 v CG1.3

Author: Will Singleton

Date: 00:25:23 05/20/01

I played four games between the Palm/Visor programs Chess Genius 1.3 and Chess
Tiger 14.1. Four games don't mean very much. However, one can usually get an
idea of the programs' strength by watching the games in progress, noting the
score and pv changes, etc. Based on these games, I cannot say which program is
stronger. Both seem to search 5-7 ply in the middle game, and suffer from
horizon effects. Could be that at this level, since both seem to search to
similar depths, chance plays a greater role than anything else. (imvho, ymmv,
warning: amateur chess player, had nothing to do today.)

Results: Genius 2.5 Tiger 1.5

Games 1 & 2 setup: (based on benchmark of P2/450 emulator 2/3 speed of Visor
Prism)
Chess Tiger -- Palm Emulator (P2/450) avg think time 45-60 seconds, manual stop
Chess Genuis -- Visor Prism, avg think time 30 seconds, manual or auto stop
(note: this setup should negate any time control issues)

Games 3 & 4 setup:
Both programs run on Visor Prism, think time 30-70 seconds.

Game 1 -- Draw
(lost the pgn, sorry, take my word for it, Chess Tiger had +1.5, couldn't
capitalize)

Game 2 --
